To help you see the differences among the styles, here are the three styles shown together and in the same point size. Notice the difference in serifs at the top and bottom of the stroke of the H and the D and the difference in thickness between the thick and thin lines. Also notice the inclination of the counter in the D and C. Do you see how gracefully the serifs curve into the letter strokes in Baskerville? This is a classically bracketed serif--a characteristic of Old Style--combined with the high contrast and upright counters of a Modern. Finally, note how differently the three fonts use the space, from the compact Old Style to the sprawling Modern.
