UDL Principle 1 - Inclusiveness

" Create a classroom environment that respects and values diversity. For example, put a statement on your syllabus or in training or performance support materials inviting students to meet with you to discuss disability-related accommodations and other special learning needs. Avoid segregating or stigmatizing any student. Respect the privacy of all students."

At the system-level:
Inclusiveness gets established in policy at all levels – institutional policies, codes of ethics, and policies in departments and/or individual classrooms.  A starting point is to state it and invite students to come to you the teacher or administrator.  Inclusiveness in application entails an infrastructure that can respond to students’ needs – are flexible workstations present, are there devices available, can a student take longer as necessary or work with the support of an aide or fellow student, can they submit their evidence of learning in multiple formats (is the technology there to do it AND are you willing to let them do that).
