Exact pictographs used to represent man will vary widely, but they generally fall into two groups. Some pictographs show man with four limbs outstretched. These pictographs reflect the "Four Directions" concept as a part of man. Man is infused with the Great Spirit, and his goal is to achieve balance in all four parts of life. Other pictographs depict man as a body with legs, sometimes arms. What is important in these are the legs, depicting mans ability to travel and move and representing his journey on earth (as seen in the photo used in the header graphic for this section). A simple oval with legs represents the earth, so a head attached represents man, a creature of the earth. |

The pictograph to the left is the figure of a baby in the womb. The artist has attributed a spirit-like quality to the baby in the womb by drawing four limbs outstretched. |

This pictograph is a more complex figure of man worshipping some unknown deity. We know it is a deity by three parts of the pictograph: the concentric circles for the head (which will never be used to depict a man), the oval with legs (representing the earth), and the cross figure in the oval, representing the four winds. Which one best represents your view of man? OR Which one best represents how you view yourself at this point in your life? Drag the limbs onto the body to create your own man pictograph. |
